Since 1980, GPI Anatomicals has engineered and manufactured educational anatomical models for pharmaceutical & medical device companies and anatomical model distributors from around the world. With more than five million anatomical models distributed throughout the world, GPI Anatomicals is the largest provider of medical educational premiums within the pharmaceutical industry. We provide custom solutions to the pharmaceutical industry for use as marketing materials and educational aids. GPI's custom medical device and implant replicas have helped to launch and sustain numerous medical device and implant product lines for a wide range of clients. Lake Bluff, IL company seeking an industrial designer for a truly unique position developing models from design concept to production. The candidate for this job will have responsibility for the ground up design of new products for Fortune 500 pharmaceutical and medical implant device companies. In this capacity, the designer will be working hands on with client engineers developing state of the art models for worldwide use by sales reps to train doctors and surgeons. The candidate will work with the best marketing teams across the globe creating innovative custom models for the largest pharmaceutical companies.

The candidate for this job will also work directly with GPI’s founder in the creation of new stock anatomical models. These models are developed with the input of medical illustrators and medical sculptors, converted to CAD files by the industrial designer for production overseas.

After completing the design portion of each project the candidate will also work as the Project Manager to direct all aspects for manufacturing. This includes finding vendors, getting quotes, creating all specifications, issuing purchase orders, troubleshooting production problems, coordinating shipping and documenting all activities. This job requires excellent communication skills and organization. It also requires continuous and meticulous attention to detail that will allow flawless handling of multiple projects simultaneously.   • BA/BS degree in Industrial Design from an accredited University
  • Proficient in 3D Solid Modelling in SolidWorks, Product Design and Development and Prototype Development.
  • Strong knowledge of materials and processes
  • Graphics knowledge in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CC
  • Knowledge of 3D printing for prototyping (SLA, SLS, Object, etc.)

Desired Skills:

  • Excellent communication through visual and written instructions.
  • Capable of working independently, and as a team member.
  • Part Design for Injection Molding, Rotational Molding, Extrusions, Vacuum Forming, RTV and Die Castings and Machining.
  • Concept and Prototype Development, and Professional Presentations.
  • Reverse Engineering.
  • Design for Manufacturing, Assembly and Packaging.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in design and specification of custom plastic products
  • Review, organize and select quotes for production
  • Issue/Author purchase orders
  • Monitor production against schedules
  • Conduct daily production reviews and communicate changes in schedules to all affected
  • Coordinate and communicate for problem resolution
  • Coordinate with Inside Account Management regarding delivery promises, new customer orders, past due orders, and customer inquiries.
  • Monitor all projects using MS SharePoint integrated with MS Project.
  • Coordinate changes with shipping department.
  • Schedule sample jobs and monitor progress as appropriate.
